Work Schedule: Min 40 hrs./week, with occasional early morning or late nights

Primary Work Setting: Field/Operations position – occasional travel up to 100%

Job Summary:

The company’s Safety Training Officer & Field QA Lead is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of non-emergency medical transportation services. This position is a manager/director role responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of safety training programs specifically designed for NEMT and EMS operations. The role also involves collaborating with Human Resources, Safety, and Risk teams to maintain and enhance the company’s overall safety program.

He/she leads field audit efforts to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies. He/she will also oversee the development and the training of field training materials, curriculum, and be responsible for the development and assessment of the company’s field FTOs.  The manager/director will promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities: 

NEMT Safety Training Management:

  • Develop and deliver specialized safety training programs for field operations, including patient handling, vehicle safety, safety and emergency procedures, training as well as safety campaigns.
  • Ensure training materials reflect current best practices and comply with the firm’s safety training curriculum and objectives.
  • Conduct regular safety training sessions for new hires, FTOs and ongoing refresher courses for existing staff.
  • Assess the effectiveness of training programs and make data-driven improvements.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of training completion and certification for all field personnel.

Field Quality Assurance:

  • Lead team members who conduct routine audits of AW field operations, including ride-alongs, scheduled or unplanned site inspections.
  • Partners with field and fleet operations that vehicles are maintained according to safety standards and that drivers adhere to safe driving practices.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with patient transportation.
  • Work with drivers, dispatchers, facilities, providers, and safety & risk team, to address safety concerns and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Document and report on field audit findings, including compliance with HIPAA, ADA, and other relevant regulations.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Safety Officers and QA Inspectors.
  • Hold regular team meetings to review audit results, discuss safety challenges, and share best practices.
  • Encourage a proactive approach to safety and continuous improvement among team members.
  • Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations of team members.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay informed about regulations affecting America West, including local, state, and federal transportation and healthcare laws.
  • Ensure safety operations meet or exceed all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Create and ensure that external safety and training audits and inspections meet safety and company’s standard operating procedures.

Incident Response & Reporting:

  • Oversee the investigation of safety incidents, accidents, and near misses.
  • Ensure that all incidents are properly documented and reported in compliance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent recurrence of safety incidents.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to enhance safety training programs and improve field QA processes.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate safety best practices into all aspects of operations.
  • Lead initiatives to strengthen the safety culture and continuous learning across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in medical transportation, safety training, or field quality assurance and at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of non-emergency medical transportation or healthcare operations, including regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
  • Ability to travel regularly for field audits and training sessions.

Preferred Skills/Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Transportation Management, Healthcare Administration, Quality Management, Operations Management or a related field; otherwise six years experience in healthcare or medical transportation safety.
  • Certification in safety training programs (e.g., OSHA, Smith System Driver Safety) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with safety management software and reporting tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous customer service experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based with regular travel to various job sites and stations and may require travel to member or medical facilities.
  • May involve working in various environments, including outdoors, healthcare settings, and
  • Flexible working hours, including evenings or weekends, to conduct training or audits or attend industry safety conferences.
